Organic cotton describes a fibre sourcing requirement; it is not a complete towel performance specification. A buyer should review the organic-content evidence separately from dimensions, GSM, construction, appearance and laundering results.
Define the requested scheme and claim
Identify the certification scheme, required content claim and intended label wording before requesting a quotation. The Organic Content Standard and Global Organic Textile Standard have different requirements and scopes. Do not treat their names as interchangeable.
Likewise, chemical testing labels address a different question from organic fibre sourcing. If several requirements apply, list them separately in the purchasing brief.
Check company and order documentation
Review the relevant certificate’s scope, validity and covered operation. Then ask what documents will substantiate the actual product and shipment. Company-level certification and transaction-level evidence answer different questions.
Textile Exchange provides resources to find certified companies and authenticate transaction certificates. Use the applicable scheme’s verification route and confirm which documents apply to the proposed supply chain.
- Name the scheme and exact requested claim.
- Confirm fibre composition and content requirements.
- Review the certificate and relevant scope.
- Agree product and order evidence requirements.
- Approve label wording and logo permissions.
Compare finished towel performance separately
Use equivalent sizes and constructions, and assess samples under the same care process. Organic sourcing alone does not determine absorbency, softness, drying performance or service life. Record the product’s measured and observed results against the actual buyer requirements.
Do not extend an organic-content claim into an unsupported medical or skin-health statement. Keep environmental wording specific to the verified claim rather than using broad descriptions that the evidence does not establish.
Confirm feasibility before packaging
Send the certification requirement with your initial enquiry so sourcing, documentation, quantities and development can be discussed together. Any certified supply option must be confirmed for the specified order before the claim appears on packaging.
Read our cotton origin guide, supplier comparison checklist and vegan material-claim checklist to keep different purchasing claims distinct.
