Terry and waffle describe fabric constructions with different surfaces. A buyer choosing towels or bathrobes should assess the proposed fabric in the finished product and its intended service conditions. Neither construction name supplies the complete composition or performance brief.
Describe the actual fabric
Terry has a pile surface, commonly formed from loops. Waffle is recognised by its grid-like texture. For either option, ask for composition, fabric weight, finishing and the relevant construction details. Confirm whether the sample represents the fabric and finish proposed for bulk production.
Do not assume that every waffle product is lighter than every terry product, or that every terry product behaves identically. Compare the actual weight and construction being offered.
Check the finished use
For a towel, assess dimensions, surface feel, absorbency using an agreed method, hem condition and appearance. For a robe, add garment measurements, coverage, belt arrangement, pockets and closure behaviour. A fabric swatch cannot establish the finished robe’s fit.
- Record composition and fabric weight.
- Identify the intended towel or garment use.
- Approve finished dimensions and construction.
- Compare washed appearance and dimensional change.
- Review branding and label placement.
Run equivalent laundering trials
Share the hotel’s or spa’s laundry process and assess representative finished samples. Record the conditions and observed results. Compare drying and handling with actual trial data rather than assuming a fixed saving from the texture.
After washing, measure the product and check seams, surface appearance and garment fit where relevant. Discuss the acceptable results and inspection process before placing the bulk order.
Match branding to the surface
Approve logo position and the relevant decoration method on the chosen fabric. Texture, fabric weight and backing can affect the appearance of an embroidered mark. Inspect both the face and reverse of the development sample.
