A duvet cover can look correct on a size chart and still fit poorly in service. For hotel or wholesale bedding, develop the cover around the actual insert and the intended laundering process. Regional names such as queen and king are starting labels, not complete manufacturing measurements.
Measure the insert and define the fit
Record insert length and width, then describe the preferred fit with a sample or drawing. Share any relevant construction detail that affects how the insert sits inside the cover. Ask the supplier to propose finished dimensions and explain how the wash assessment will be handled.
Agree tolerances and measurement conditions. Do not apply a fixed shrinkage percentage to every fabric without testing the specified construction and finishing route.
Specify the opening and closure
Describe opening position, usable opening width and the chosen closure. If buttons, a zip, an envelope arrangement or internal ties are requested, show their position and construction. Confirm availability and development feasibility during quotation.
- Record insert measurements and intended fit.
- State finished cover dimensions and tolerances.
- Draw the opening and closure details.
- Identify fabric, seams, labels and colour.
- Approve dimensions after the agreed wash trial.
Test the cover in the real workflow
Wash samples using the intended process, measure them and fit the normal insert. Ask the housekeeping team to check insertion, removal, corner alignment and closure handling. Review seam and closure condition after washing as well as the visual result on the bed.
Keep the approved cover and insert reference identifiable. If the hotel later changes the insert size, another fit check may be necessary even when the cover’s product code remains familiar.
Coordinate the bedding programme
Check the duvet cover beside sheets and pillowcases for shade and presentation. Record whether items are packed individually or as a defined set. Give each cover size clear carton identification to reduce mixing during receiving and room allocation.
Fit and construction choices support practical bedding use; they should not be turned into unverified sleep or health claims. Explore our hotel bedding range, bed linen component checklist and cutting and stitching guide to prepare your order brief.
