A salon towel and a bathroom towel may both be cotton terry, yet their working conditions can be very different. Salon purchasing should start with the service being performed and the products used during that service. Reusing a standard home towel specification can leave important requirements undefined.
Map sizes to the service workflow
List the towels needed for washing hair, wrapping wet hair, protecting clothing, beauty treatments and guest hand drying. Record the size used for each task and the number issued per appointment. One standard size may simplify stock control, but some services need different dimensions or identification colours.
Bathroom collections usually centre on bath towels, hand towels and washcloths. A salon assortment may concentrate on a smaller working towel that is issued repeatedly through the day. Specify actual dimensions rather than relying on a product name.
State chemical exposure honestly
Hair colour, lightening products, oils and salon cleaning chemicals create a different brief from ordinary bathroom use. A dark towel is not automatically bleach resistant. Cotton content does not establish stain resistance or protection against colour change.
Identify the actual products and concentrations relevant to your process. If a specific resistance claim matters, ask for evidence tied to the offered textile or agree a practical service trial. Keep the result and the approved material reference with the order.
Balance weight with turnaround
Compare finished size, GSM and measured piece weight. The towel needs to work for the service while fitting your laundry capacity and storage. A heavier item may feel substantial but adds more dry textile mass per wash load. Test the available qualities through the real wash and drying cycle before selecting the programme.
- Record lint release during early washes.
- Check shade change and colour transfer.
- Inspect hems and dimensions after care.
- Review comfort and handling during a service.
- Count towels needed per appointment and per day.
Build a workable colour system
Colour coding can distinguish treatment use, guest presentation and cleaning stock. Keep the code simple and train staff to follow it. Do not rely on colour coding as evidence of a hygiene or chemical-resistance property; it is an operational identification tool.
Agree shade references and reorder quantities by colour. If the supplier quotes separate minimums for each shade, account for that before offering too many colours across a chain of salons.
Translate the trial into procurement
State quantities, pieces per pack, branding and destination. Request quotation against the sample that passed the intended process. Track replacement use so repeat orders arrive before stock shortages interrupt service.
