Cabana towels are recognised by their broad stripes, but two similar photographs can represent different constructions. A yarn-dyed stripe and a printed stripe need different approvals. Wholesale buyers should establish how the colour is applied before comparing price, appearance or repeat-order consistency.
Separate colour method from fabric structure
With yarn-dyed designs, coloured yarn is incorporated into the fabric. With printing, a design is applied to an already formed textile. Neither method tells you the complete composition, GSM, pile type or finishing route. Ask for a technical description that covers both the textile and the colour process.
For a two-sided presentation, inspect the reverse rather than assuming both faces look identical. If the towel has a smooth or sheared printed face and terry reverse, record those surfaces explicitly in the specification.
Approve the stripe layout in every size
A stripe repeat approved on a large beach towel may look unbalanced on a smaller item. Mark the stripe widths, colour order, border position and overall design orientation. Measure from the finished edge, not a cutting line. Include whether the first and last stripes must have the same colour.
- Supply physical shade references where possible.
- Identify face and reverse appearance.
- State finished dimensions, composition and weight.
- Confirm edge details and label position.
- Agree artwork and textile sample approval separately.
Test the real pool or beach use
Share the laundry process and relevant exposures, including pool chemicals where applicable. Review washed samples for shade change, colour transfer, print appearance, lint and dimensions. Do not infer chlorine resistance or colourfastness from the term yarn-dyed or from a dark colour.
If a performance requirement is important, name the test or agree a repeatable trial with the supplier and your laundry. Record the acceptable result before placing the bulk order. A single unwashed sample does not establish performance across repeated commercial use.
Calculate assortment and packing
Compare quotations by colourway, finished size and pieces per carton. A retail stripe collection may need individual wraps and barcodes; a resort programme may need bulk packs with clear carton identification. Confirm whether mixed colours share one minimum or each colour has its own requirement.
Keep enough information for a repeat order: artwork version, shade reference, construction, approved sample date and packing specification. Retaining only a product photograph leaves too many details open to interpretation.

Which option should a buyer choose?
Choose after comparing the required presentation and an equivalent wash trial. Colour method is one purchasing variable; it is not a universal quality ranking.
