A coordinated towel collection needs more than matching colour names. When buying dobby border towels for retail, approve how the border, pile and shade look together across every size in the assortment. The design should remain recognisable without assuming that every item can use an identical layout.
Define the border separately from the towel body
Ask the supplier to identify the construction, finished size, GSM and fibre composition. A dobby border describes a woven design feature; it does not establish the softness, absorbency or wash performance of the complete towel. Those properties need assessment on the specified sample.
Mark the border width and its position from the finished edge. Confirm whether the towel has one or two borders and whether their orientation matters. If a logo is added, place it on the technical drawing so it does not compete with the border.
Develop the whole size family
For a collection containing a washcloth, hand towel and bath towel, decide whether border width stays fixed or changes with the item. Inspect samples side by side, open and folded. A border that looks balanced on a bath towel may dominate a small washcloth.
- Assign a product code to every size and colour.
- Show finished dimensions and agreed tolerances.
- Approve border placement for each item.
- Record individual and set packaging requirements.
- Retain an assortment approval sheet.
Approve colour and washed appearance
Use agreed physical shade references and assess the pile and border together. Different structures can present the same colour differently. Review an agreed wash trial for dimensions, shade, surface appearance and border behaviour.
Record acceptable variation before ordering. Do not assume a future order will match a photograph from the first delivery. Keep labelled reference samples and ask how repeat shades and replacement items will be checked.
Make packing support the retail offer
Specify whether towels are sold individually or as sets. Confirm the fold, wrap, barcode, care label and displayed measurements. In mixed sets, list the exact quantity of each component rather than using an informal phrase such as a family pack.
Discuss quantities by size and shade at quotation stage. Minimums, development feasibility and delivery terms depend on the confirmed brief. For construction comparisons, read jacquard versus dobby towels. For brand additions, use our embroidered towel guide, and explore the towel product range.
